Hi readers, recently it has come to my attention by a few of ye comments that a full-fledged fashion/wardrobe entry is due. I'll try my best, so here we go:
•I have always been into clothes. Always. Like really young I noticed things, but that is mostly because I am creative.
•Growing up I drew and drew and drew clothing, and even applied to a few fashion schools my senior year in high school.
•I interned at Seaplane, for nearly two and a half years, and gained a lot of experience about the entire reconstruction pattern-free design world.
•My senior year, I was president of the fashion club.
•Long story short, I love fashion. I love clothes. But not enough to make a career out of it, still I try to find goodies and am always on the look out.
My Style:
•I would say that my style is vintage-infused-preppy-college-girl
•I don't really know what that means, but just go with it.
•Things evolve, and I think that's how personal style is. Here's a bit of what I really use to channel (high school-first years of college): lacoste polos, burberry plaid, pleats, floral sundresses, seersucker, cardigans, jcrew flats (I actually had an almost two month long obsession with the Manhattan flat, I had two pairs and wore.them.out)
•Today. I love: layers, chunky and textured fabrics, neutrals, jumpers, leggings, tights, flats, knee-high boots, worn-in jeans, pinks and whites, classic t-shirts, black heels, & anything feminine.
Modesty:
•Whatever your personal belief I think it's better to keep at least some of it covered.
•Just pick what you want: boobs or butt/legs. Showing both at the same time. Not. A. Good. Idea. Ever.
•Accentuate what you have. If you're an hourglass like me, you can't really even wear too tight of stuff or anything too revealing because it will always look sexual.
Budget:
•Fashion and personal style is not about your bank account
•I find stuff everywhere: garage sales, second hand stores, the mall, upscale boutiques
•The best thing to do is go for quality. I do not have that many clothes, really, but I have things that date back years. Why? Know quality, know good brands. Yes, some cheap stores are good (Forever 21), but just don't expect it to last.
Age:
•Dress how you want
•I think being appropriate falls into the modesty category, so unless your super saggy boobs are hanging out all over the place I think dress how you want!
•Be fun. I don't know why a lot of older women limit themselves. Be fun. Dress how you feel. My mom is a great example of this, I am so thankful for her example.
•Age ain't nothin' but a number, baby ; )
Where:
•Everywhere. But I like: Anthropologie, Forever 21, Gap, J Crew, Banana, Target, Shade, Lily Pulitzer (super sale, obviously), Macy's (jr's dept), VonMaur (jr's. dept), independent boutiques.
•I would avoid buying an entire ensemble from one store (you know, what the mannequin is wearing). You'll look like you're trying to hard, and plus you might find something better/more economical somewhere else!
Working the "You" in:
•Never limit yourself. I think that sometimes the best outfits come when you're in a scramble, but feeling adventurous
•Put things together that might normally not
•Look at fashion, scrapbook, & home decorating magazines. Get a feel for your personal style & just go for it!
Alright, well, I hope that is what ya'll wanted! Feel free to e-mail me/comment, and keep your eyes out for more fun fashion entries!
