Each year, my friend Zane and I get together for pasta carbonara. I love pasta carbonara and fell in love with it during my junior year of college. It's pretty decadent, though, so I try to make it only once or twice a year.
One thing I value about this simple act of gathering together and eating is that I can reflect on where both of our lives have been since we last sat down to eat that perfect mixture of pasta, cream, egg, cheese and bacon. Jobs change, relationships come and go, friends fall in and out, but we still gather over this meal.
I've been brokenhearted and new to living on my own, an excitable senior in college and now peacefully content with my calm life, and all through it I am trying to keep these simple traditions alive. I believe they are important, they are the glue.
