Words, motto's and creeds and all that have been on my mind recently. Words are powerful and I'm trying to chose my words carefully as part of living in authenticity in 2013. I've hinted before at what my photography-life motto is. I think it sums up who I am trying to be and most of all what I am trying to do behind the lens and in my everyday.
In the fall, a co-worker of mine and I visited at letterpress called Minnesota Book Arts. There's a section in The Magazine every month where an editor tries out a class and writes about it and I photograph them taking it. Sometimes the classes and instructors include me. I was so thrilled to visit a real letter press!
The instructor let me create several posters... I think the word is called a "collection." I decided to create my motto:
{Authenticity: this and the entire collection is sitting in a IKEA box right now. Maybe I'll get around to putting it up}
A friend and I were lamenting over a certain famous blogger's excess one day and we both came to a really striking (and I think inspired) conclusion: ordinary is and can be beautiful.
My profession requires me to create beautiful images out of ordinary places and circumstances.
My hobby pushes me to capture beautiful photos in sometimes challenging lighting and space.
My personal life desires beauty out of ordinary commutes, grocery store shops, reading God's word.
My friends and family create the beauty in my life out of today's mundane and hard.
