Seven years ago I attended a West Point Halloween dance when I was a freshman at Sarah Lawrence. Jacob and I met that night and saw each other a few more times before life went on and I made some different choices. Anyhow, I moved back to MN and finished up school. Jacob and I stayed in touch and in December he decided to visit me! I was so excited to show off Minneapolis and introduce him to my friends.
Thursday night we headed to dinner at Masu. Jacob loved the food, it's one of my favorite places to take people because there are several beautiful photo murals and the vibe is just awesome. We went early to beat the crowd and since it gets dark at, you know, 430pm we didn't know the difference! This is Jacob's awesome class ring. We'd hoped to check out the Walker, which is free on Thursdays, but both of us were too tired.
Friday we drove the couple of blocks to the Minneapolis Institute of Arts. I was a little nervous when I saw the five school buses thinking we might be inundated with children, but thankfully they were just going to see a play next door (our Children's Theater and art museum are in the same, giant building.) Here's Jacob checking out some coffee table books in the gift shop.
Being the good metro girl I am I decided to take him to St. Paul for lunch at Cossetta's and a trip to the Science Museum. Later I asked Jacob what his favorite part of the visit was and he said there! We had so much fun despite Jacob thinking a giant art piece might be an obstacle course. Jacob and I both love this photo: "we look like people I want to be friends with!"
Back on my side of the river we decided to check out Fulton Brewery. I asked Jacob if they have breweries in Mississippi or Georgia, they don't. I love Fulton and have been there a few times for photo shoots. Jacob loved it so much he bought a t-shirt :) Icehouse is right around the corner from me and had live music so we went there for a bit and finished the evening running into Emma at Eat Street Social. Whenever Jacob meets my friends he says "nice to meet you ma'am" and calls them their name with a "Miss" before it. As you can imagine, that goes over very well.
Saturday morning we had brunch at dad's and Jacob got to meet mom also. Emma joined us, too. Who doesn't need a buffer? Everyone got along very well and I eat too much bread + butter.
Saturday night I had a little party to introduce my friends to Jacob. We stopped at Lund's to pick up a few items and Jacob was amazed, "I love this grocery store!" Everyone started to arrive around 7pm. I am so glad Karen's Conor and Kate could make it. Jacob loved my friends and was so impressed with them. He fit right in.
I served paprika baked chicken, garlic infused kale and provided two kinds of pellegrino :) Everyone else brought something to share and we had plenty of food.
Sunday Jacob was supposed to leave in the am and that just didn't happen! We tried to make it to his second flight and he missed that one, too. I thought the entire thing was really funny. He finally got home before midnight!
Overal such a fun, hilarious time and Jacob loved Minnesota even though it was January and freezing!
