After our lovely nap and restful time in front of Food Network it was time to get ready. We each purchased some pretty necklaces earlier in the day and it was time to show them off. I love all of our choices, so "us." Thank you Becky for the photos.
For dinner Becky's friend who lives in Chicago recommended Hub 51. Let me tell you, I have eaten my weight in sushi alone and Hub 51 has the absolute best I have ever had in my life. I am still dreaming about that spicy tuna roll. I probably will forever. Watch that I go back in a few months and they've taken it off the menu :) We ordered a great appetizer, entrees and of course, dessert. There was no room in this vacation for moderation.
Then we decided, since we were on vacation after all to continue our drinks at the bar. Where we sat and analyzed everyone around us. It was hilarious. Then some Heineken employees chatted us up but wouldn't refill our wine glasses, we could only drink Heineken on them.
Not long after we found ourselves at a club called Paris. I connected with one of my Sarah Lawrence buddies, Aja who I hadn't seen since I was, oh, twenty and she came to visit. Amid that and fending off some suitors (side note: apparently there's more men in Chicago than women so the men are kind of aggressive. Too bad the boys who were trying to talk to us weren't keepers.) we got to reconnect.
When Aja and I were freshmen we used to tell people that we were sisters.
The night continued. Then we noticed some excitement in a certain corner. Some excitement plus some body guards surrounding everything. Um, it was only Derek Jeter and some other Yankees. Thankfully they thought we were okay enough to walk into their circle and meet them. I told Derek I wish he could come to Minnesota and get our team in line. Then he smiled at me.
That about took the cake for the evening and we headed home. The next morning we got ourselves together, packed up and drove about seven hours home. We stopped a few times to eat as Katie calls "puffy pizza" and take Becky's photo next to a live bait vending machine.
It was perhaps the best trip of my life.
