scholarship dinner

So moving on after the last entry. My funk may not be gone, but I'm done thinking/writing about the whole thing. Keep in mind on Thursday that my friend I mentioned broke the news to me that she is engaged! Well, we shall see considering this is engagement #2 for her (#1 did not go through) and they have only dated since the middle of January. Did I mention they got engaged on Valentine's day? She likes to fly by the seat of her pants! But in light of my sad plight, thank you for your kind, encouraging comments.

But on to other things:
Last Monday was my sorority's scholarship dinner. Since I am the academics chair I planned the entire thing from the awards given out to the seating chart to the menu even the color scheme of the decorations. It was a blast to do.

A simple, inexpensive party favor/table treat to make:
I just got small brown bags from Target, red and silver confetti from there as well. I found these adorable Martha Stewart red and white labels for the front. Each girl who gets about a certain fall semester GPA got one.  Inside I put a few kinds of candy: Reese's peanut butter egg, laffy taffy, and Hershey's mini bars.

The tables were pretty fun to do, too. I requested red tulips with red napkins and paper place mats. In case you are wondering our sorority's color is cardinal red, so I wanted to stick with that. I am really happy with how it looked.

But, nothing beat the menu:
•Salad (baby greens, crasins, blue cheese crumbles, pears)
•Chicken fettuccine Alfredo
•Crusty french roles
•Steamed broccoli
•Brownies a la mode

I got lots of compliments from everyone, and our chef, Penny, was pretty accommodating about all my requests even though she didn't want to make the salad. LOL, I was insistent about what I wanted!

Wow, that looks really good, and the menu sounds wonderful & is making me hungry right now. LOL. Great Job

I always feel a little sorry for girls like the one you mentioned. When you are alone, it's easy to be jealous of all the attention they get when it seems that you are getting none. In the long run though, you come to realize the sadness of their desperation to not be alone. Every girl I have ever known who is like that (relationship after relationship, miving too quickly through the stages, unable to be alone, etc) that has ended up finally getting married, has been divorced within two years. Why? Because they rushed it and were so desperate to get to the imagined finish line (a wedding) they didn't stop to think about what it was going to be like after they were there. My advice to you is to take your time, don't worry, when the time is right and the lord finds the person He wants you to be with it won't be such hard work, it will just happen. I mean, if you have all of eternity, what's the rush, right?

it looks like you did a really great job, and that salad sounds really good, i want to try it

looks fabulous- when do you find the time to do everything you do?! Reds my favoriate color.

The menu sounds so good! Anything with crasins:+)

Beautiful table spreads!! I love the red against the white, very stunning.

everything looks fabulous! So are you like the official party planner in your house? Your *sisters* should feel incredibly lucky that they have someone with such great taste. Even if the cook doesn't know it. ;)

You are amazing! And your dinner menu made me hungry! I could really go for some fettucci and crusty rolls right now - yum!

Oh boy! I remember planning my first scholarship dinner in spring of 2004. Exciting times. I believe our cook served lemon chicken, brown rice, green salad, and homemad marble bread. Great menu chikita!
