i am in new york, right? a night out at club remix

So I live in New York City, and that means I got out a lot, right? Nope. I am a homebody. Really, I am. Maybe it's because I'm a capricorn, but if I *had* to choose I'd pick a lifetime movie over dancing. That doesn't mean I don't like to have a good time... remember the west point dance? Or maybe I should mention last weekends' THREE parties all in one night! So! Last night my friends and I went out. For some reason we got to the club really early. We had fun, we danced, but the guys there were such duds- they just sat in chairs against the wall. WTH??? Maybe these guys were a new species of men... last time I checked clubs were for DANCING not sitting and pouting. Finally some guys got up the courage to join in on the fun. This was probably the strangest club experience I've ever had. No one was there, it was hardly half way full, and get this- when it was time to leave around 4am I was walking to the bathroom with my friend and all of a sudden out of NO WHERE comes this black cat! I was so freaked out. Not just because I'm afraid of sketchy, street cats, but because this cat didn't look *right*. I did make it to the bathroom without being attacked, but that cat was just *weird*. Sounds bad coming from me right? Miss. I-love-cats-so-much. Another weird fact was that there was this bizzare guy. While everyone was dancing he (and I think he was in his 50s- dude why are you at a club that's full of young people?) was walking around holding his flashlight (wtf?) AND an old-fashioned camera. Yes. Def. a "unique" club experience. I wish I had taken a picture of this guy, he was just beyond anything I'd ever seen.
It may have not been the best night out, but we did get some adorable pictures!

{{so happy}} I got a package!

I got a package from Matt today!!!! Yes! I am so happy. He told me a while ago he'd picked up something up this past August while on vacation in Hawaii, but was so busy that he hadn't had a chance to send it. I'd been awaiting it's arrival, but had put it on the back burner- college keeps me so busy. So today I had to go to the post office to pick up the curtains my mom made for my dorm room- she is so sweet! I am so thankful to have a mom like her- and they are so pretty. I'll be posting some pictures soon, once I get the rods set up. SO!
I open up the package and there's a sweet letter that he wrote and then this very pretty necklace. The picture really doesn't do it justice- I'm going to take one with my canon digital rebel when I have time to lug it out from under the bed. I just had to show it off! Really what I love the most is the letter- words from his heart and besides, God bless Matt, but we all know his mom probably helped him pick it out (it has pink in it, my favorite color). That's okay though because I love Matt's mom- she's amazing! Getting this just *made* my day. Matt is so wonderful, and I love him with all my heart.

Random Ramblings

So I've been really trying to get my work done. I have a ton of books to read, and to be honest I am finding that I really LOVE reading. Yes, me, I LOVE reading. I used to really not like it in high school, but now it just seems like it's more fun... Funny how everyone said you write a lot here, I've yet to write anything to the level that I did at St. Mary's. Mostly we do reflections and note taking, fine by me! I'm sure that will eventually change!

Last night I watched 'The Notebook' for the first time. This was a pretty emotional movie and my roomate and I were crying together! Of course WHILE I was watching Matt instant messenged me. Later I called since I felt bad for not replying. Did you know that "Alli" goes to Sarah Lawrence in that movie? Yes, that's where I go now.. a little too close to home that movie!

He went to his cousin's wedding at the Portland Golf Club in West Linn. I kept telling him how that brought back memories. My good friend Alyx, lives out there near the PGC. Matt and I met at a party at her house two summers ago and then later she 're-introduced' us. Crazy how things happen. He was in LO when we were talking, hanging w/ High School kids. I had to laugh. Man, just being home w/o him would kill me. I could tell he was sad.

I'm so excited for his package to arrive... I cannot wait!

So here are a couple of cool pictures. This is the big plaque and then here's Aja and I pretending to be prisoners in jail (that's actually Westland's gate). As you can tell we're both very dramatic. Click on the images to see a larger one!

I'm at it again- back to scrapbooking!

When Matt saw my new layouts for my college scrapbook online yesterday his words put it just the right way: "You've been scrapbooking again". Yes!

Over a month has gone by since I've had the time or supplies to scrapbook. I ordered a few basic thrings from scrapbooks.com and uploaded photos onto shutterfly.com and decided it had been much too long since I'd last had some fun.

Scapping at college is a bit more of a challenge because I don't have nearly all my supplies like I do at home. Since I've been scrapbooking since I was a sophomore my stash had really grown. I had everything organized and I was always getting new products since I worked at my LSS.

Now I had to order things online or go into the city to "stationary shops" (there are no official "scrapbooking stores" in Manhattan or in the nearby tri-state area that I know of... If you are reading this and you live around NYC and go to a sb store let me know!) So anyway I was feeling really down about that, but just decided that ordering would be just as fun- hey spending money on supplies is spending money on supplies- it doesn't matter if you do it in your pjs at your desk or at a store.

So- here are my first two layouts for my college scrapbook. Keeping it pretty simple. I'm going to order some more supplies this week. I'm hoping to get some punches, ink pads, and rub-ons or letter stickers. Right now I'm loving the challenge of scrapping without all my goodies from home. Enjoy!

Well it rained today.

It is finally cooling down again, although it's not going to even get into the 60s probably until October- I checked weather.com

I've been very busy lately.

Today I had an interview with a woman who'd called me. She was really nice and great on the phone, but when we met in person she was strange and I got some weird vibes. I think I'll try watching her kids once, but if I still have a weird feeling I'll say no. Babysitters def. have the upper hand here at school, there are not enough of us to go around so I'll talk to a few other moms who wanted me and pick the family I like the best and that I mesh well with. I've had one bad experience w/ a strange family and that taught me the lesson to always trust my intuition!

This past weekend I went to West Point with a whole bunch of other people from my school for a mixer. It was so much fun. We had a great time. Here are some pictures!

This is why I love him...

The past few weeks, as you can see by my entries have been hot and cold with Matt. He's been getting on my nerves and there were times when I started thinking about how much I hated certain things he'd done. I even went so far as to write him a not very nice e-mail. Through it all he's been pretty nice. There were def. things he did that I didn't like, but Matt just doesn't get mad- I don't know how he does it, he's always as cool as a cucumber.

So long before I came here it was an understanding that Dad was going to move from our house in Portland. It was just too big for a family with kids all grown up and out and it was time to also move on re- what happened in May.

Dad went back and forward with the idea of selling the house. It was understood that he was at the very least going to keep a small place in Portland and then commute for work from there.

We looked at a lot of houses, but then dad and I came to this understanding that we wanted to keep the house.

Dad promised me that if he did end up having to move out of Oregon it wouldn't be until after the holidays. This was very important for me, as those are the only times I can see Matt, my friends, my cat, etc... The places and people I love.

We yesterday we were talking on im. Lately dad has had a lot of work up in Washington state, not far from Portland at all. In fact, he was commuting. I assumed that was how it would go from now on out, him doing work in OR and WA.

He decided to drop a bomb on me. I don't do well with sudden news, or broken promises.

He told me that he was moving up to WA and was selling the house asap. I was so upset, my heart felt like it had stopped, and all the sudden horrible images were flashing through my mind: images of me never seeing Matt, being alone for the rest of my life when he was my one true love, never having the chance to worship in the ward again or talk with Marsha, never spending one last night in my bedroom, and so many more awful things.

I was very upset. I started crying and freaking out. Dad had broken the promise to me, and I felt betrayed.

After a lot of dramatic instant messaging I seemed to calm down a bit. Things aren't that bad as I had imagined. If the offer on the house doesn't go through then we'll stay through Dec. I'm hoping that it doesn't.

I called Matt and started telling him what had happened- here's how our conversation went:
K: "Matt, I have some bad new for you"
M: "What?"
K: "Dad is moving, he's moving up to Washington and he just told me today. He's not even giving me a chance to say good-bye or anything"
M: "Ohh Katie, don't cry" (he is so nice!)
K: "I'm just upset about this because it's all so sudden. I mean I knew he was going to move, but he promised not until after Christmas"
M: "Well you can come stay with me for Thanksgiving" (YEAHHHH)
K: "Okay, thank you so much, but I don't want to be a burden on your family"
M: "No. You know they love you. My mom will love to have you"
K: "Thank you so much. You know the thing is that I'm not really sure yet. If the house doesn't sell then I'll be home, but if it does..."
M: "It's fine. I'll just double check with my parents"

Isn't he the sweetest? I love him so much. Matt is amazing. Later I ended up going into the Bronx with some friends and while I was away I had an im away message up, Matt commented on it and said he loved me.

I talked to dad and everything's fine. Matt plans on coming up to see me in WA a lot (it's a 3hr drive) hopefully dad *might* still keep a place in Portland so I can be with Matt more.

Just checking in!

10 great memories of High School

1) When my friends Greta, Maddie, and I ran off during our school's anti-war demonstration sophomore year and went to the mall. We spent the afternoon in the sharper image massage chairs eating Starbuck's coffee cake. We weren't opposed to protesting or anything, but we just saw an oppurtunity to have some fun!

2) Lunches at PSU's Pizzicato. St. Mary's is practically on their campus and we took full advantage of the PSU bookstore AND yummy pizza. So many fun times, laughing, yelling at trifling waiters, and eating great food.

3) Running cross country. I only did this for a year, but I loved it. I hated the coach, but my friend Greta and her sister Heidi made up for all of that. I'll never forget when he told me I coudldn't use the bathroom and went to the porta potty despite his wishes LOL!

4) Sleepovers at Annalise's house followed by work mornings in the psych. ward aka the Portland Public Libarary! I'll never forget dancing at 3 am and then having to get up and work just a few hours later!

5) Spring break 2002 with Annie in Maui. The four seasons is really paradise. We had so much fun- the guy to girl ratio was like 8:4. We got so many free lunches b/c of all those nice boys!

6) Rose festival. I loved being a court memeber at my school. I'm so glad Charlotte won. That day was so special. I can't believe I got up in front of my whole school and spoke about scrapbooking!!!!!

7) Prom 2005. This may very well have been the beginning of my life! Annalise and I planned so hard and everything (well ALMOST everything) went off w/o a hitch!

8) the after party. Enough said.

9) Matt, even though I'm pissed at him now... Meeting him and falling into love- priceless

10) Getting into college in NY and actually getting here!

Just some random elements that make up my day : )

A fun shot...

The second day of orientation week our school hosted a "black and white" dance- the idea is that everyone comes and has a good time dancing BUT the only catch it- you HAVE to wear black and white. Here is a picture of my very dear friend Aja and I dancing to Whitney Houston's- "I wanna dance with somebody"- we love that song- HOW FUN!
